Abstract

This study aims to find out the students ability in comprehending narrative text. This investigation was conducted at the second year students of SMPN 4 Selong academic year 2014/2015. The subject of this study were 38 students. To find out the students ability in comprehending narrative text, the researcher used descriptive research. The researcher collected the data by letting the students read a test and answer question about it. The test provided six passages. Each consist of 25 questions, in the form of multiple choice. The result of the research is as follows: 15,7% students are catagorized as” excellent”, 42,1% as”very good”, 23,6% as” good”, 13,1 % as” poor”, 5,2% as” very poor”. The total score of the students was 2554 and the mean score was 67,2 that mean “very good”. Finally, the second year students of SMPN 4 Selong in academic year 2014/2015 have no problem in reading narrative text. The finding of this study suggests the English teacher to often engage the students to improve their capability not only in reading skill but also in speaking skill by inviting them to intract in English everyday.
